Car versus building at Bridge and Seventh Streets, round two
Meanwhile, Murray Bridge’s main street has been half-closed for a while on Monday after two cars collided head-on at the Seventh Street traffic lights.
An emergency services page initially suggested that three vehicles had been involved in the collision and that one had gone into a building.
One car ended up on the footpath after its driver crashed into and knocked down a tree outside a discount retailer, while another had its front end badly damaged.
An SA Ambulance Service crew treated two patients at the scene.
The tree was removed later in the day.
Another crash at the same intersection in February damaged a verandah out the front of a lawyer’s office.
Car chase leads to arrest
Finally, police have charged a Murray Bridge man with a variety of offences after he allegedly led them on a short chase through the rural city on Monday.
Officers allegedly spotted the 27-year-old driving on Mulgundawah Road at an hour when he was not supposed to be out and about, according to his bail conditions.
They attempted to stop him, but he allegedly sped away.
When they found him, he allegedly refused to answer any questions or take a drug test.
The officers laid five charges against him, impounded his vehicle and took him into custody.
Murray Mallee police also reported six more motorists for alleged offences over the Anzac Day long weekend:
- A 48-year-old Murray Bridge man for driving while disqualified on Friday
- A 20-year-old Murray Bridge woman, his passenger, for possessing drugs and paraphernalia
- A 37-year-old Murray Bridge man, 52-year-old Loxton man and 62-year-old Wellington man for drug driving on Saturday
- A 26-year-old Murray Bridge P-plater for speeding on the South Eastern Freeway on Saturday; his motorbike was alleged to be travelling at 150 kilometres per hour in the 110 zone at Callington
