Employees at a Brinkley meat processing plant have pooled their resources to buy thousands of dollars worth of equipment for a local community centre.
Representatives of Big River Pork visited Murray Bridge Community Centre last week to drop off a whole trailer-load of items:
- Two barbecues
- Trestle tables
- Clothes drying racks
- $3000 worth of gift cards
The donations were paid for by employees who volunteered to take a small amount out of their paycheques each week, and voted on which cause to support via a QR code in their lunch room.
The company matched their donations dollar for dollar.
They agreed on the community centre, an organisation which provides food relief and bathroom and laundry facilities to locals doing it tough, as well as workshops and support programs for people from all walks of life.
“It’s a great thing you do for the community,” Big River Pork’s Jacki Duffield said.
“When we have people who are struggling ... we always refer them to come here, chill out and have a bit of a chat.”
The barbecues and tables will be used at events including a Spirited Men’s Group breakfast which is held at the centre on Beatty Terrace every fortnight on Fridays.
