Auto Collectors Club enjoys a busy September

Sky divers, pavlova and canola fields – when the weather takes a turn for the best, the Auto Collectors Club of Murray Bridge is not one to let it go to waste.

This September, the ACCMB members were out and about, admiring the cars in Strathalbyn, displaying their own vehicles at the Murray Bridge Show, enjoying the festivities at the Wellington Strawberry Fete.

Graham Edwards recounts the ACCMB’s recent adventures below, and even reveals where the club is appearing next.

Patron’s run cruises to Ben Finnis Collectible Classic showroom

Although the weather looked a little threatening, 12 cars and 21 members left the club house with the convoy being led by the ACCMB patron, Bob Hunter.

The group journeyed to Strathalbyn through the picturesque countryside dotted with crops of Canola, fence high, out in full yellow bloom; truly a photographer’s dream.

On arrival at the Ben Finnis Collectible Classic showroom, morning tea was consumed, less the long promised “sponge cake” … maybe next visit?

ACCMB members spent much time viewing Ben’s collection of classic vehicles for sale, before moving off to the Commercial Hotel for midday lunch.

The last stop was the Strathalbyn Motor Museum, which is well worth a visit for any “Rev Head”.

Auto Collectors dazzle at Murray Bridge Show

ACCMB members and their classic vehicles converged onto the Murray Bridge showground oval for all to see.

This annual outing was under the control of ACCMB members Jeff and Aileen Martin.

Eight vehicles were put into position for a small but impressive display of classic vehicles.

Amongst the vehicles was a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, owned by Peter Sellick.

These vehicles attracted many individuals and families with children, some who had not ever “clapped eyes” on such strange looking four-wheel objects in this modern era.

The weather shone on attendees in a way that people had not experienced for many a day, almost compelling them to search for sunscreen.

Another pleasant outing, thanks to the Martins and these members who once again offered their support.

ACCMB members enjoy food and festivities at Wellington Strawberry Fete

In perfect weather, the ACCMB again met at their clubrooms, as organised by daily run organizers, club life members Lyn and Tom West.

Following Lyn’s explanation of rules and run directions, it was time to move off to Wellington.

Members drove via Jervois, Flagstaff Roads, meandering past Big River Pork, past Ingham’s Feed Mill.

The road traversed through fields of crop and pasture before turning left onto the Wellington/Langhorne Creek Road, before arriving at the Wellington Hall Strawberry Fete.

ACCMB members were met and welcomed by “spritely” long term Wellington resident, Des Kluske who turns 90 years of age this month.

Mr Kluske kindly showed 14 ACCMB members and their seven cars to the lawn section to set up their unique display of classic vehicles.

Following the set up under the shade of a large gumtree, it was time to enjoy the day’s events and stalls, magnificently organized by the fete committee.

ACCMB members mixed with the multitude, renewed old acquaintances, and purchased bric-a-brac from the many and diverse stall holders, in between having morning tea.

BBQ, strawberries, pavlova and ice cream were savored, not forgetting the scones and jam you would almost kill for, while all forgetting the word “diet” for the day’s outing.

The different attraction for the day was a group of sky divers who jumped in on the nearby paddock, much to the displeasure of the cows who called it home.

One such jump that caught many attendees eyes, was that of outgoing fete organizer, Jude Male who landed on cue, on what was a near perfect jump from way up above; well done, Jude.

With the day beginning to draw to a close in what was perfect weather for the outdoor event, it was time for the ACCMB members to pack up and say their farewells.

Many thanks to run organizers Lyn and Tom West for yet another successful outing, and to the Wellington Strawberry Fete committee for a great event, and we look forward to attending in two years time.
