Australia Post delivery centre opens in Murray Bridge
Thousands of parcels will pass through the new facility every day, in line with the continued growth of online shopping.
If you live in the Murraylands and receive a parcel through Australia Post over the next few decades, it will come through this place.
The postal service’s new delivery centre on Hindmarsh Road, Murray Bridge opened on Tuesday, just six months after it was announced.
The facility will handle up to 2600 parcels per day, with a fully electric processing system powered by solar panels and batteries.
Although few of us write letters any more, spokesman Shane Plant said the rise of online shopping and parcel delivery meant Australia Post was busier than ever.
“Online spend in South Australia rose 14 per cent to $5.6 billion last year,” he said.
“As more people shop online, particularly in regional areas, we’re continuing to invest in our regional network to keep pace with demand and changing customer needs, to deliver a better, more reliable service for our customers into the future.
“The new facility will help our team get parcels on the road faster and deliver them to our customers as efficiently as possible.
“It will also strengthen our ability to support local businesses, helping them reach more customers and grow through e-commerce.”
The new facility replaced one at 193 Adelaide Road which was half the size.
Public-facing postal services will remain available at the Murray Bridge Post Office, at Murray Bridge Marketplace; and the licensed post office at Southside Newsagency.
