Police are calling for information from the Murray Bridge community as they investigate a suspicious fire on Seventh Street on Monday night.

The fire started among some wheelie bins in between a lawyer’s office and a retailer on the corner of Fifth Street, and caused minor damage around the shop’s back door.

A police patrol spotted the blaze around 11.30pm, and firefighters quickly came to put it out.

Officers returned to the scene on Tuesday morning, believing that the fire may have been deliberately lit.

New tenants had moved into the shop only a month or two earlier, and had installed new security shutters, but the premises had been closed for a couple of weeks.

Anyone who might have CCTV or dash cam footage taken in the area at the time of the fire should contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or call 1800 333 000, and quote reference number 266844.
