Murray Bridge's tennis star lost in the first round of the singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles, but he won't go home empty-handed.
Murray Bridge’s Alex Bolt has been knocked out of the 2022 Australian Open.
In the singles on Tuesday, he lost in straight sets to the the more highly ranked Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Tuesday, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
He faced another tough challenge in the doubles competition on Wednesday, as he and 18-year-old debutant James McCabe started as underdogs against fellow Aussies Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios.
The less fancied pair lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
In a closer mixed doubles match, Bolt and Lizette Cabrera lost to Kiwis Erin Routliffe and Michael Venus on Thursday, 7-6, 5-6, 13-11.
It’s not all bad news, though – simply qualifying for the first round of the singles draw as a wild card earned Bolt a $103,000 paycheque.
Making the first round in each of the two doubles competitions was worth $30,500.
