The Melbourne Cup has trotted through Murray Bridge this week on a tour of Australia.
Now in its 22nd year, the tour has travelled over one million kilometres, visiting more than 640 destinations.
In the Murraylands this year this included a boat cruise and stops at the University of the Third Age, Lerwin Aged Care, Unity College and, of course, the Murray Bridge Racing Club for its Gold Cup launch.
The cup, which has been valued at $750,000, is rebuilt each year with the same three-handled design.
Two hundred and fifty hours of handcrafting were put into the building process, with the trophy's base being fashioned from Western Australian jarrah timber.
The trophy is awarded to the owner of the horse that takes out the Melbourne Cup, and they are able to do with it as they wish.
